Our Story
Home in the Hills went on a journey to create a candle that genuinely captured the aesthetic and essence of the local Malibu area. We wanted to create a clean, beautiful candle. We were surprised to learn that most candles being sold today create toxic carcinogens when burned that can be harmful when breathed. Not only was the pureness of the ingredients important to us, but we also wanted our candle line to have a clean aesthetic and appearance as well. After hundreds of burn tests and olfactory fatigue trying so many different scents, we believe we have created the perfect candles.
Nature is simple and beautiful. The Malibu hills and beaches inspired each of the unique candles in our line. Part of what makes our candles special is that we use wooden wicks instead of traditional cotton wicks. We fell in love with the soft crackling sound of a wooden wick. It enhances the candle burning experience and soothes you when you need to decompress. We pay close attention to every detail as we make each candle by hand from beginning to end in small batches at our Agoura Hills, CA facility. Our luxurious virgin coconut soy candles are vegan, gluten free, toxin free, paraben free, and phthalate free. Our wooden wicks are vegan, non-toxic, and ethically sourced from FSC certified mills in the USA.
